contra//kontra [the 11-minute barrier] (2003)
A collaboration with musician Bryce Beverlin II, this performance-installation investigated the input of lengthy rhythmic sequences into implicit memory. Bryce learned the musical score required to beat the classic Nintendo game, Contra. Sensors attached to the game pads allowed the audience to see the score take shape visually. The players’ best time was 11’14”. They did not break the 11-minute barrier.
